Posture » Overview
"Every particle in nature, a leaf, a drop, a crystal, a moment of time is related to the whole, and partakes of the perfection of the whole" Ralph Waldo Emerson
The human body was designed to move. We have this amazing musculoskeletal system that allows us to move through this beautiful natural world of gravity. When all of our joints are fully functioning, all nerves are firing and muscles are moving, then rest of the body systems are able to function optimally as well. As a massage therapist, I have seen what the impact of sitting in a chair and moving a little mouse around all day will have on this marvelous self-correcting machine. Unfortunately, when the body does not move as it was designed, then we lose functionality and the body begins to compensate to make up for this lack of stimulation. All other body systems begin to feel the effect of this and suffer as a result
The Egoscue Method which was developed by Pete Egoscue in the 1970's is the premier form of postural therapy. A Postural Assessment Specialist (PAS) trained by the Egoscue University will look at the posture of a person, their gait and joint range of motions, along with their specific complaints, health history and daily routines in order to gather enough information to devise a specific plan of exercises or e-cises to correct these compensations and deviations. The Egoscue Method works best with the person who is ready to take action to bring their body back into its designed alignment. It takes dedication between appointments with these daily e-cises to make a shift in the posture. Progress is seen when the participant is committed and compliant. If you are motivated to feel less pain and to move with ease, then this type of therapy may be for you!
